I just received shipment 2 days ago and last night opened the first can. I noticed it did not smell quite right, looked a different darker color than usual and had a way different texture to what I have been purchasing locally. I opened a second can because I thought perhaps it was just a one-off. Then I opened a third and fourth can...all of them were the same awful smell, color and texture!! I had one can left over from the local store and opened it for comparison. The pictures speak for themselves. I would not feed this to my cat! Something is clearly amiss here despite the expiration date still being good. See more I originally started a subscribe and save of this product after my cats tried a few cans of the same product at Wholefoods and seemed to like it. It was cheaper than my canned Instinct subscribe and save and I liked the fact it was organic (I give my cats which like canned food a can in the morning and Stella and Chewies Freeze dried in the evening.) Anyway the Organix cat food shipped was much more watery than the Wholefoods cans and my cats threw it up a lot. The expiration date was fine just different quality product which was odd. Either which way upon review of the ingredients again I''m frustrated to see Pea Protein and Peas (a cheap filler high in carbs) which is not natural to cats carnivore diets. Instinct also has this unfortunately. A diet high in plant carbs raises the alkalinity of urine pH and can cause urinary tract infection et cetera. Cats PH should naturally be acidic between 6.0-6.5. One of my cats has UTI issues and I try to keep her on a strict mostly carnivore diet like Stella and Chewies Freeze dried (Amazon subscription) and raw food bought locally. The last thing I want to do is increase her plant carbs intake! Also this cat food has Carrageenan, a controversial ingredient for humans thought to increase inflammation in the body. My cats have allergies, they don''t need anything else bumping up their inflammation or possibly damaging their biodome. I cancelled my subscription.

***Update as of 5/28/21 I have most of my cats on Farmina an Italian grain free food. I still use Stella and Chewys Amazon subscribe and save freeze dried chicken for their dinner EXCEPT for the one cat who has UTI issues. The cat with the UTI issues eats only Farmina Urinary and Farmina digestion canned cat food. I put 1/8th teaspoon of DL-Methionine in her digestion canned food for dinner which can be bought on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/AniMed-Dl-Methionine-Pure-Horses-16Oz/dp/B00LFNHON2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=dl+methionine&qid=1622255564&sprefix=dl+meth&sr=8-3 It''s important not to exceed more than 1/2 teaspoon a day especially if they''re eating it in a urinary canned food so 1/8th to 1/4th works well if your cat has serious crystal/acidity issues. Check with your vet to be safe. I buy the Farmina food locally, it''s cheaper than Amazon. It took me FOREVER to figure out what worked for her, it''s sad when you have to do the diagnosis on your pets food yourself. It is very difficult to find high-quality WET cat food at a reasonable price and I have done an extensive research. This brand is about as good as I can get without spending more on cat food than I do for my own food each month. She originally ate Wellness brand chicken formula, but they recently changed their formula with bad results, so I slowly transitioned to the Castor and Pollux. The chicken pate has a decent amount of gravy in it and no grains. I tested out a few cans bought at the nearest big-box-pet-store before I committed to buying in bulk. EDIT DEC. 8 & 9, 2016: PLATE LICKING GOOD! After MORE than 2 months of 2 bouts of heat, 1 UTI infection & treatment, my little kitty was almost skin & bones & her appetite has finally returned in full swing. Yesterday morning & this morning I left early & she didn''t have too much to eat & when I returned very late that afternoon--a bit later than usual, I opened up this large can, emptied far more than a 3.2 can amount in her dish & left only a little for next morning--only what was left around the inside of the rim. She LICKED HER PLATE CLEAN BOTH TIMES!!! This is life-saving nutrition & moisture & I was SO amazed as she was getting so skinny & boney & I feared she went below 8 lbs, & I was getting really worried. This kitty is so tiny & boney now I can easily pick her up with one hand with no strain at all--yet she gobbled up such an enormous amount for her tiny tummy! It must be delicious! No more dry food! I took her off dry food cold turkey & I was so happy with the results last night! I saved the rest for this morning & she ate almost all of the little that was left. You can save this in a covered container & it will remain just as good as the night before. You can''t do this with most commercial cat foods, but with just a few of the better foods, you can save it for next day--that means it is human quality. She goes good pee pees & I am finally relieved!

ABSOLUTELY FREE OF ALL harmful GUMS! I wanted to mention this very important finding! All harmful gums are not used! NO Xanthan gum, NO Carrageenan, NO Guar gum! This is very important! In fact NO gums are used in this recipe.

When you first open this can, it doesn''t have a very distinct aroma, but once you mix the contents in your cat''s dish, the very distinct aroma of rotisserie chicken comes out & on Thanksgiving I was wondering where the smell of rotisserie chicken was coming from??!!!--certainly not my place (I eat totally vegan!)--Was it coming from down the hall & seeping in thru the crack in the door or was it coming thru the vent from upstairs? Oh! it was coming from my kitty''s dish! This is a PEOPLE PLEASER! The contents of this Turkey/chicken mix is fluffy & moist & it is extremely fresh, and (& unlike most cheaper but very good commercial brands) you can divide this one larger can into two portions & save the rest in a covered container in the frig for next time/next day & the freshness & aroma remain the same! This is certainly a plus for me because this is expensive & this is one quality I am looking for. I am not aware of the cooking process & unable to give an opinion on this point, & I understand there are carbs & chicken liver, but it certainly contains less toxins because it is organic & the Plus side is that it is so good quality, it can be saved correctly in the frig for next time or next day.

Edit Dec 15, 2015: Success story continues!!! My little kitty has gone from bone thin to now gaining weight & is already just about normal. She continues to eat this with gusto. Last night once again she almost ate the entire can! I took away the last tiny amount on her plate which she left anyway because I gave her a bit more than the last times. I was afraid her tummy wouldn''t handle it even if she eats a little at a time. (this morning she only ate just a tiny bit since she ate almost too much last night. (I froze & will give to the tiny bit left to the raccoons.)

NO CARRAGEENAN! AND without the toxic supplement Menadione Sodium Bisulfite (source of Vitamin K)--(The Material Safety Data sheet on Menadione-sodium bisulfite states: “The substance is toxic.") AND this doesn''t seem to have ANY of the gums that may be harmful to cats! AND no added "oceanfish" which usually means Mackerel & high in mercury! AND no brown rice which is usually high in arsenic too! I am totally pleased & I will continue to purchase!

We have stuck with them over the years, even though the product we bought from Amazon would almost invariably arrive with most of the cans smashed or dented. But now, no more! Not only are many of the cans still smashed and/or dented, but now the product has turned to crap. We saw in our last two shipments that many of the cans have watered-down-looking product - not at all the usual consistency. And, to make matters worse - MUCH worse! - now the product is making our cats sick too. In fact, it is making one of our cats sick - the other one, who usually has a very hearty appetite, won''t touch it at all. We thought he was sick or having trouble with his teeth or something. But no. We had an older can or two around still and both cats tucked into that one and came out OK. Maybe the shortage of the chicken/chicken liver flavor was due to their needing to revamp their product? I have to wonder... I don''t know.
