See more When this toy arrived I was excited as soon as I opened my package and removed the plastic bag I immediately smelled a weird odor from this toy. It was very similar strong smell of play-Doh or clay like smell, I had a bad feeling about it but thought maybe it would go away if I washed it however it never left. This toy was only in Emma’s cage for ONE DAY and NIGHT and the next day she lost balance from her perch, slowly passing out and thrashing on the floor of the cage dying, it seemed like she was dying to me and immediately I took her out of her cage as she was in distress. I tried taking her to the vet immediately however they were all closed on Sundays so I just took her out of her cage and held her and felt hopeless and clueless as to what was happening— I just thought for the worst and came to terms that she was going to die, I couldn’t figure out why she’s so sick all of the sudden she didn’t show any signs physically ill or any changed behavior that day or days prior. It was sudden. Out the blue. I held her in my hand all day and evening petting her over and over waiting for the worst to come thankfully she didn’t die that night.

I removed all the old toys and perches ESPECIALLY this toy I’m reviewing, I replaced her cage with small blankets only two of her old toys and to lower their perches everything down since she was weak to climb—As of now she is back to normal thank goodness and I kept thinking over and over to myself as to why and how this happened and immediately remembered this toy that had this strong chemical smell, I immediately feel immense regret that I didn’t trust my bad gut feeling the moment I smelt this toy. But I thought that maybe it would go away or that that’s just how the toy was since I looked back for the reviews for this toy they were nothing but positive and a few negative about how it was too big for small birds and what not. I couldn’t find anything involving a strong smell of this toy. It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have placed this toy in my Emma’s cage if it had that strong of a smell that bothered me how could it not have bothered Emma? But thankfully she’s okay now but I’m never buying this toy or any toys that are rubbery or if they have a strong sense of smell here on Amazon ever again.

I am very sure that it’s this toy that caused Emma to almost die, she was completely happy-silly self before that toy arrived. She was eating, drinking water and playing with her old toys perfectly normal. She didn’t act out of character days prior. It couldn’t have been her old toys since she’s been playing with them and nothing negative happened to her when playing with them. As soon as I placed that toy in her cage for ONE DAY AND ONE NIGHT the very next day she passed out and collapsed on her cage she was breathing heavily twitching horribly immediately reminded me of my parakeets when I was a child when the gas leak occurred in my parents apartment. Emma could have died because of this toy, I regret getting this toy. This was a huge mistake.

Please I don’t know if it was an unfortunate mistake that this toy had that toxic smell while other people didn’t but it doesn’t matter to me, only thing I have on my mind is that this toy could have killed Emma and it could end up killing another innocent bird and clueless owner. You have been warned. Its holes are large enough to squeeze NutriBerries through, but small enough that they don’t just fall back out. They are, however, large enough that when my bird does get a hold of one, it doesn’t take long for her to deplete the stash, making the treats last maybe a few minutes. Luckily she loves the toy enough to play with it regardless if there’s food to get, but it’s definitely not one for long foraging unless you fill it with something shreddy to make it harder to get to the treats.

Overall I would definitely recommend this.
