You can''t tell by the picture on Amazon that they are making them skinnier now.....
I just grabbed a razor blade and removed one board from the new one to ''fix'' the old one.

See more It was either this manger or the other more expensive plastic and metal combo feeder from Kaytee. And after reading reviews, I didn''t want to get the other one that said guinea pigs had fallen into it head first and died or gotten seriously injured. So I bought this manger for my two adult guinea pigs. I did as some of the other reviews said and knocked out the bottom bar of the feeder so that my piggies would actually be able to access the hay and fit their noses into it. I then encountered the opposite problem, and instead of the hay being unaccessible, all of the smaller pieces simply fall through the bottom or they pull the entire pile of hay out and soil it and refuse to eat it. It reduces hay waste more than just putting it in a bowl, but the product could certainly be designed better proportionately. I love Kaytee brand for a lot of things so I just assumed this would be great for them. However, for guinea pigs/rabbits, this is WAY too small. The largest point of the opening to put hay is barely 2" and only gets smaller as you get lower. You can barely fit any hay inside and my piggies would go through this in a few hours. Also, it was shipped in a thin bubble wrap envelope which did not protect it, and it arrived with the corner broken off so I had to glue it back together. Easy to load/fill and move around, and they seem sturdy and cute. I would definitely recommend. That said, I docked a star off the rating for two reasons. 1) they have a slight design flaw where it’s a shallow box with tight spacing on the boards. So, the guinea pigs could not hay out at the bottom because the hay would get trapped behind the boards and wouldn’t simply fall down. So, I had to cut out/remove the middle board to help the hay “push out” and down as I push more hay into the top. 2) The feeder isn’t that big to begin with so with two guinea pigs go through a full load of hay quickly.

If you’re willing to cut a board out and sand it down so there is a nice gap for access to hay, and you’re willing to buy two for multiply pets to not run out so fast, then this works great. If my rabbits hadn''t eaten the first one I think that I''d live with it but seeing as they did eat it I''m looking for one that is made out of plastic one that they''d be less interested in eating. All in all the hay rack worked ok. It''s not a huge rack so I had to really shove the hay in to make enough hay fit but that wasn''t a big deal to rabbits. They could get to the hay pretty well. The wood though? it''s just that the wood used for this particular hay rack is on the thinner cheaper side and apparently my rabbits really enjoyed chewing on it. They lived thankfully but indeed I was forced to return to Amazon to buy yet another hay rack. Maybe if this hayrack was marketed to be a novelty item for rabbits I would be less disappointed.
