It works great using it EXACTLY what it''s advertised for (NO SCRATCHING). It really does keep my cats from scratching the furniture fabric. However, any and all negative reviews I''ve seen are those of us trying to use it what it wasn''t designed for or used it on surfaces they shouldn''t. I''ve seen reviews where people are complaining because it takes paint off. Well, if you read the back of the package it says "May damage certain surfaces (including, without limitation, wood finishes, painted surfaces, leather, vinyl, microfiber and wallpaper) so ALWAYS TEST a small piece of Stickey Paws on an inconspicuous area before applying." They also warn that it won''t stick as well on treated fabrics (Scotchgard).

In my case I have a problem with the cats sitting on the furniture when I''m not home so while they''re bored they chew the corners of the chairs or couch. I put the tape down on all the surfaces hoping to keep them from sitting and expecting this would train them to stay off. It worked at first. They''d jump up, feel the stickiness, and then promptly jump down. This lasted about two weeks before they figured out they could jump up, get the tape stuck to them, jump down with it on, pull it off with they teeth and paws, and then they were good to go. Now, everyday I put on fresh tape only to find it crumpled up on the furniture or floor when I get home (see attached pic). I have web cams installed so I can see what they do when I''m away. Everyday now I see them sitting only hours after I''ve applied new tape. So this is my suggestion to you. If you have fabric furniture this product WILL keep them from scratching vertical corners and sides. I''ve also found it will keep them from chewing corners and areas they don''t sit on. However, don''t have expectations it will work beyond its intent. My rating is solely based on it''s intended use.

If I had any comment back to the manufacturer it would be to work on making the adhesive a little more "potent". The adhesive does seem to become less effective as air and dust are exposed to the surface. Maybe this is impossible to overcome, but it''s my suggestion to improve the product.

As a side note. I''m thinking of trying the XL sheets to keep the cats from sitting on the furniture, but then I can''t sit on my own furniture! So I''m thinking of getting some poster board or equivalent to attach the sticky sheets to. Turns out, it was a smart move for them not to stand behind their own product. The product is useless. It didn''t adhere--at all-- to our sofa or chair or speaker screen or curtains. So when we tried to peel off the white backing, the stuff just folded over and stuck to itself, leaving a sticky crumpled up useless and annoying product on the floor.

I have heard some cats like the chemical smell in plastic products... though I cannot say for sure why. Some people surmise it''s due to a dental problem, or vitamin deficiency, or simple boredom.

I have multiple cats who eat the same (high-quality) food, yet Spot is the only one who showed any interest in licking/eating these. So at least in my case, I am sure a nutrition deficiency was not the issue. (I am vegan, but my cats are not.) I have had his teeth checked out as well.

Before Spotty came into my life, "Sticky Paws" worked pretty well with my other cats.... Though the strips did not exactly look stylish. I would remove them temporarily on the rare occasion that I had guests over (and since my cats hide from strangers, that worked fine.)

That said, the strips occasionally need to be replaced anyway because if a person or a pet accidentally rubs up against them, lint/fur (etc) will stick to them, making them completely ineffective (because they are no longer sticky).

I find these to be worth a try if you are attempting to avoid declawing (which is an incredibly inhumane procedure in my humble opinion). However, I recommend doing your trial run on a day you will be home and can keep an eye on your fur kids, to ensure they don''t have the same chemical-loving weird quirk my Spotty does. If he/she shows no interest within the first 24 hours, I suspect using them will be fine long-term.

If these don''t work for you and your kitties for any reason, I suggest checking out "Soft Claws" nail caps (which are also sold here on Amazon). Sticky paws are easy to use. They''re basically clear stickers that won''t ruin your furniture. To apply them you peel off one side of the strip and stick it to the corner of your furniture. Once in place you peel off the other covering to uncover the sticky strip. I have to say that these really work. At first I only applied them where the cats had been scratching but quickly noticed my cats found another corner to scratch. So I decided to put these on every corner of every upholstered piece of furniture in my house. The scratching has stopped. I really like that these sticky strips are clear and you can''t see them at all on your furniture. They also are easily removed if you want to take them off or replace them.
