We started with cheap Purina Indoor, then switched her to the Purina Naturals, then to the sensitive stomach version, and of course trying the wet food options, as well. All these changes were obviously very gradual as that can upset their stomach as well. Then we tried Blue Buffalo Hairball which I was SO hopeful would work. I also upped our grooming of her to about 3-4x a week with a furminator. While this cut down the vomit to about 1-2 times a week, I was convinced it was still not good enough.

Finally, we bought this on Amazon and we saw immediate improvement in the hairballs. She still threw up maybe once a week or so for a while, so I have now COMBINED this with the Hartz Hairball Paste and *HOORAY* she only throws up once a month or so. I would call once a month throw up a major success.

I just wish my cat liked wet food, as I would think that would have helped the hairball issue right from the start... What cat doesn''t like wet food? So many friends told me how bad a time they had finding a lower calorie cat food that their cat loved. Fortunately, I ran across Science Diet Light/Hairball Control. It not only is considerably lower calorie than my cat''s old food, but it also helps with hairballs. She has had no hairballs since starting on this food a few weeks ago, and she has lost a few ounces already.

The instructions say to mix this chicken flavored food with the cat''s old food for a few weeks to transition them off their old food. I did not find this necessary. My cat loved this food the first time she tried it. What I especially like about this food is that the seal on the bag is just fantastic. Most dry cat foods either have a piece of tape or a snap lock closure. Neither one of them actually works very well. Science Diet has a velcro strip along the entire opening of the bag so that it can be tightly sealed to keep it fresh. Fantastic feature!

The one concern I have about this food is that according to their web page, this Light/Hairball Control Science Diet is supposed to have 40% protein; however, it says 32% on my bag. I would still recommend this chicken flavored light Science Diet to anyone whose kitty needs to drop some weight. I had my vet calculate how many calories she should eat a day. It came to 175 calories a day. This food has 279 calories in a cup, so it is easy to calculate how much to feed her a day. She is doing great on this food. I would like to give this food 5 stars, but I am deducting a star since it is advertised that the food is 40% protein. ...OK, my cats did not want to touch this food. But I did not want to waste this whole bag of food.
So after failure when mixing it with their old dry food, with wet food I gave up. But, later, I put bowl of this dry food next to their feeding area and after few days they started to eat it little by little and now it is all good! haven''t have hairball vomit on my carpet so far!
