I thought that this specific product would be good for my mid-sized dog, the actual size of the food is smaller than cat food. I am quite disappointed. Eventually she would get hungry enough and choke some of it down, but she really didn''t like the flavor. I only got the 5 lb bag, luckily, and she finished it off when I mixed it with some other dog foods. I ended up transitioning her over to the Science Diet Adult 7+ food instead, and she loves that. On the plus side, she did have very healthy BMs on this food, and did lose a little weight. She was just really unhappy with the flavor. 40 people found this helpful Helpful Report KT5.0 out of 5 starsVerified Purchase Great dog food Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2020Size: 4 Pound (Pack of 1) My little dog needed to lose a couple pounds and started her on this dog food as my sister was told to use it for her dog by her vet. Every bag, pack or can have been wholly consumed during the last five months by three mid-aged pets living with my parents. My parents'' pets (two cats and a dog) are not peaky at all, nothing like their kid ))). The pets have a vibrant stray past. When it comes to food, they must be strictly monitored since they are always hungry and ready to eat basically anything that falls under the "food" category (aquarium fish food, anyone?), and stomach issues are rarely on the list. The pets do not make a difference in cat/dog/hamster/fish/baby food. Probably in their stray past, what didn''t kill them made their health stronger. These three pets have never, ever refused food, so obviously, they wolf down anything they are given. Based on what I saw and my parent''s observations, every pet food was loved by these ex-stray pets, and they had no health issues afterwards. I''m that nerd of the family who read the ingredients list, googles unknown words and makes conclusions. So I went through the "Hill''s Science Diet Adult Perfect Weight dog food" ingredients list. The food contains corn and peas - ingredients to watch for in pet food. And these ingredients: Chicken Meal, Pork Flavor and Chicken Liver Flavor - causes me to raise an eyebrow. I''ve realized that the best way to produce a thoroughly thought-out conclusion about any pet''s diet is to take the pet to the Vet for a check-up. When it comes to the Breeds, the owner should be more careful with his pet''s diet due to many breeds'' known sensitivity. The kibbles are small, so this food is more appropriate for medium-sized dogs or smaller. There is no variety to the kibbles and they are all evenly sized. The bag is resealable, which is something I tend to take for granted, but not all dog food comes in resealable bags. The ingredients list isn''t bad with chicken, barley, and brown rice being at the top. It does not seem to contain artificial colors, artificial flavors, or artificial preservatives, which I value in my pet''s food. This food can be used for both weight loss and for maintenance. Compared to regular dog food, you are actually getting more weight/volume with this food, so your pet won''t feel as if they are undereating, even when they are on the weight loss feeding schedule. The price of this food is quite a bit more expensive than other food, so feeding more than one dog can get pretty expensive. Overall, I think that this food is a good option to help your dog lose weight. When we talked to the vet she recommended we keep an eye on the poops. Her opinion was that if there were no problems we could continue feeding this way as not all dogs suffer tummy problems when the kibble is changed out. So far after weeks of feeding this one meal a day was to help reduce the weight a couple of pounds and after achieving that goal we''ve kept her on it as the weight seems to have leveled off. She likes the kibble, there haven''t been any instances where she turned her nose up at this, other kibble wasn''t always successful in that department and here she eagerly snarfs it down. In this time we haven''t seen any changes in her energy level and her fur is still as soft and glossy (we add a squirt of fish oil once a day) as is was before. Having said that, we notice that she''s become more interested in eating veggies. If we have pea pods out she wants some, even lettuce gets her attention and she seems to be grazing a lot more while out on walks. To me, this is an indication that the kibble doesn''t contain enough vegetables. Being omnivores its important that dogs get enough non-meat ingredients in the diet and if they don''t they''re smart enough to seek it out, unlike humans. At the end of the day, this isn''t something we would get again. It''s too expensive and the fact that it''s short on vegetables means its not a complete feeding solution.
