See more As the other reviewers have noted, the solar panel only works when the sun is beating down on the panel. When a cloud scuds across the sky, the fountain stops. I have seen no sign that the solar panel re-charges the battery. Perhaps if I lived in the Nevada desert this feature might work. I bought a $20 battery four-pack with a charger at the hardware store and I rotate this through instead. The unit came with two pumps - one plug-in, one for the solar panel. This was a wise move. However, the solar pump does not have a flow modulator, so when the sun is shining and the pump is pumping, it sprays water out of the fountain and onto the ground. I had to solve this particular problem by cinching the plastic tube with a large binder clip in order to slow the flow.
