My brother in law also bought one at roughly the same time. His- very easy to start. Ours- recoil starter very tough to pull day 1 and broke on the second time starting it up. We put on a new recoil starter $45. Still was tough to pull but got it started each time. We used ours at our farm when we needed power out in the field. I believe the units that are hard to pull start have valve issue in the cylinder head. Ours died last week at 50.7 hours. The exhaust valve broke loose from its mount in the cylinder head. Blew the air filter housing cover off and split the filter in two. I''d stay away from General portable generators. I saw at least one or two other reviews that sound like the same problem as ours. Cheap pressed powder aluminum parts. Junk. I ordered a new cylinder head for $85. No contact was made to customer service, as it was pointless. I had to find a replacement immediately to facilitate day to day needs, with no power, there was no urgency to waste time with customer service and argue about how inferior this product was. It now sits in the garage until after the emergency passes, and I’ll deal with whatever cause it yo stop working. At a 800 dollar price tag, 300 dollar shipping, one would expect this to run a lot longer then just a couple of weeks. It is stored inside a shed with ethanol free gas and the gas line closed. It starts on the first pull with the choke on. Happy with my purchase. Heavy to move (the wheels could have been moved a short distance toward the center to hold more weight)
Noisy (and irritating)
Starting pull is harder than needed - no compression relief

I changed the oil at the 25 hour mark and used full synthetic oil. I noticed a sharp decrease in fuel usage afterwards. The warranty covers parts the second year but not service. We got it "fixed" for around $200 in labor. It turned out not to be the voltage regulator that they replaced. Something else was blowing out the voltage regulator. We need to replace it again, then troubleshoot until we find the actual fix. The repairs might have been more than the cost of a new generator. $200 for a trade in is all we got. I''d give it a 0 rating if I could. This thing is a piece of crap. I will never buy anything Generac makes again. I''d suggest you do the same. I filled it with a little over a gallon of ethanol free gasoline, because I read somewhere that the ethanol with eat away at the plastic/rubber components if left in the lines for awhile. I added Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer to the gasoline before filling. I run the generator 30 minutes every 3 months and turn off the fuel line and let it run dry. Don''t fill up the tank and let the generator sit because even with Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer the fuel will go bad after awhile.
