It''s likely that some filing and oil (assuming the parts aren''t hardened) could make them smoother. All three of mine have that feel. You might not notice it unless you have other better quality knives.

No slop in the hinge and the blade is held nice and tight with no wiggle, unlike several others I have. The blade retention/replacement system is the best I''ve used, in my opinion. No that difficult to open with one hand( right handed people only) ,but you will definitely need both your hands to close these knives.
